Sit Beside a Difficult Feeling

2 minEasy (for everyone)10 points
Start

Name the feeling — no need to find the cause. Notice where in your body you feel it most, and its quality (heavy, hot, cold, tight, pressing, or empty).

What are the benefits of this exercise?

  • Can reduce the fight against a feeling and build capacity to tolerate it safely
  • Helps reduce rushed decisions made during anger, fear, or sadness
  • Builds a gentler, more realistic attitude toward yourself

How to do this exercise

Give the feeling a simple name: sadness, fear, anger, shame, restlessness, or not sure.

Notice where in your body the feeling is strongest.

3

With each breath, imagine making a little space around that area. Don't try to push the feeling away — just make room for it.

4

Say: "This feeling is here now; I can be safe for a few moments."

5

Feel the floor under your feet. Then choose one small task for yourself.
