What Is Confidence?

7 views7/24/2026

You wake up and go to cook, light the stove, and get through the day's other tasks with ease. These don't make you think much, because you know you can do them. That is confidence. A rational, positive attitude toward yourself in any matter is the essence of confidence. With confidence, running your life becomes easier; without it, life's steps feel difficult.

To keep confidence in balance, we can practise a few things day to day:

  • When you feel a lack of confidence, find the cause behind it and take the necessary steps.
  • Know your skills and qualities — above all, know yourself.
  • Practise realistic thinking and outlook: set realistic goals, don't compare yourself with others, and learn from negative experiences.
  • Build a circle of positive relationships — the support of family, friends, and neighbours provides mental strength.
  • Before any action, consider its possible outcomes.
  • Use your time well — plan and act accordingly.
  • Work constantly on developing your personality: learn something new each day, take responsibility for your mistakes, and accept others' opinions positively.
  • Improve your communication skills — communicate with empathy while ensuring both your rights and others'.
  • Keep a never-give-up attitude and take care of your physical and mental health.
  • Acknowledge your efforts and successes; when you make mistakes, practise positive self-criticism instead of blaming yourself.
  • Focus on the present rather than dwelling on past and future, and practise relaxation.
  • See failure as an opportunity and step out of your comfort zone to discover your abilities.

Confidence is not always hereditary — it is a life skill. Daily practice of these things will help make your self-belief lasting. If needed, you can take care of yourself with the help of a mental health professional.
