Adequate and Healthy Sleep

10 views7/24/2026

Sleep is an essential part of our daily life and is vital for the survival of any living being. Through sleep, our mind and body get temporary rest, which helps rejuvenate and refresh us physically and mentally. So it is extremely important to ensure full, comfortable, and healthy sleep.

Sleep hygiene refers to both your sleep environment and your behaviour, and it plays an important role in ensuring the quality of your sleep.

Why is sleep hygiene important?

  • Healthy sleep is essential for both physical and mental wellbeing; it improves productivity and overall quality of life.
  • Good sleep hygiene includes setting a fixed sleep schedule, following a bedtime routine, building healthy habits, and keeping your bed suitable for sleep.
  • Positive routines strengthen healthy behaviours, while bad habits bring negative consequences.
  • Improving sleep hygiene costs little and carries almost no risk, and it works well against insufficient sleep and insomnia.

Signs of poor sleep:

  • Difficulty falling asleep.
  • Frequent sleep disruptions.
  • Daytime drowsiness.
  • An overall lack of sleep quantity or quality.

Healthy habits:

  • Reduce caffeine and alcohol intake, especially close to bedtime.
  • Exercise regularly, but avoid vigorous activity right before bed.

Maintaining sleep hygiene alone will not necessarily end all sleep problems; if you have a serious problem, you must certainly consult a specialist.
